Grade 9-12

Registration is closed and fall classes will begin in September.

In this 2 semester class, students will learn more about the world by reading and discussing 7 full length memoir and historic fiction novels about teens from different cultures that have survived and thrived in various conditions. Classes will also include instruction for writing essays with MLA style, literary analysis and vocabulary development. In addition to the 60 minute class each week, students will be required to complete homework each week. (approx. 1.5  -2.5 hours)
The class will be sufficient to meet High School ELA credit requirements for a college prep student. Grades will be given for class participation, successful completion of homework, and essays, as well as a Creative Project presentation each semester.
 
Classes:
This class meets on Thursdays from 1:30 - 2:30 eastern. There will be 26 classes altogether, 13 each semester. Fall Dates are: Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26 Oct. 3, 17, 24, 31 Nov. 7, 14, 21 Dec. 5, 12. There is no class on Oct. 10 (Fall Break) or Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Break). Spring Dates: Jan. 16, 23, 30 Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27 Mar. 6, 20, 27 Apr. 3, 10, 17. There will be no class on March 13 (Spring Break)

This is a 1 semester class for students  looking for a college prep level composition class. The class will include reading and discussing 3 full length novels. Writing skills covered include persuasive essays, compare / contrast essays, editorial writing, basic literary analysis, and narrative writing. In addition to the 60 minute class each week, students will be required to complete homework each week (Approx. 1.5 - 2 hours)

This class meets High School English requirements. Grades will be given for class participation, successful completion of homework, and essays, as well as a Creative Project presentation at the end of the semester.

This class meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 - 3:30 eastern. There will be 13 classes altogether. Fall Dates are: Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25 Oct. 2, 16, 23, 30 Nov. 6, 13, 20 Dec. 4, 11. There is no class on Oct. 9 (Fall Break) or Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Break).

This is a 2 semester class that includes lecture, interactive activities, and student speeches. Each student will give 6 prepared speeches designed to inform or persuade as well as several impromptu speeches each semester. This provides even the most reluctant speaker an opportunity to get more comfortable in front of the class. In addition to the one hour of class each week, students will need to complete homework assignments and come prepared for class.
This class meets High School English credit requirements and is suitable for both college prep and non college prep students.  Grades will be given for class participation, homework, and the presentation  of both prepared and impromptu speeches. 
Classes:

This class meets on Tuesday Mornings from 11:00 - 12:00 eastern. There will be 26 classes altogether, 13 each semester. Fall Dates are: Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24 Oct. 1, 15, 22, 29 Nov. 5, 12, 19 Dec. 3, 10 There is no class on Oct. 8 (Fall Break) or Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving Break). Spring Dates are: Jan. 14, 21, 28 Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25 Mar. 4, 18, 25 Apr. 1, 8, 15. There is no class on Mar. 11 (Spring Break).

 

Needed Supplies: 
  • 3"X5" Index cards
  • Printed weekly handouts (to be filled out in class)
  • 3 Ring binder to keep all handouts, notes and speech pre-writing

This is a 2 semester High School Art class. Topics covered first semester include Elements of Art; Space, Line, Shape, Form, and Value as well as art appreciation, Art History, and techniques in graphite drawing. Second semester will focus on the Principles of Art, composition, and techniques in charcoal drawing. In addition to the 60 minute class each week, students will be required to complete homework each week (Approx. 1.5 - 2 hours)

Grades will be given at the end of each semester based on participation, following directions, and effort, not artistic ability. The class is sufficient to meet requirements for a year of High School Fine Arts credit.

Classes:

This class meets on Thursdays from 2:45 - 3:45 eastern. There will be 26 classes altogether, 13 each semester. Dates are: Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26 Oct. 3, 17, 24, 31 Nov. 7, 14, 21 Dec. 5, 12. There is no class on Oct. 10 (Fall Break) or Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Break). Spring Dates: Jan. 16, 23, 30 Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27 Mar. 6, 20, 27 Apr. 3, 10, 17. There will be no class on March 13 (Spring Break)

 

Required Supplies:

  • First semester: A set of drawing pencils (including 2H,HB, 4B and 6B), a small hand held pencil sharpener, a good quality vinyl eraser, a kneaded eraser, and a 9”X12” spiral bound drawing pad.

  • Second Semester: A package of compressed charcoal (including soft, medium and hard as well as white), 3-4 sticks of vine charcoal, 2-3 blending stumps, a can of aerosol hair spray (used as a fixative) and 8”X11” or 9”X12” charcoal drawing paper.
