Elementary

grades 3-5

Registration is closed and fall classes will begin in September.

In this 2 semester class students will read and discuss 6 elementary books that star animal characters, complete a short story unit, and learn all about 6 story elements. The class uses fun activities and games related to the books to introduce the study of literature. There will be no grades given but each student is expected to keep up on weekly reading and writing, and come to class ready to participate.
Classes:
This class meets on Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:15 eastern. There will be 26 classes altogether, 13 each semester. Fall Dates are: Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24 Oct. 1, 15, 22, 29 Nov. 5, 12, 19 Dec. 3, 10. There is no class on Oct. 8 (Fall Break) or Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving Break). Spring Dates are: Jan. 14, 21, 28 Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25 Mar. 4, 18, 25 Apr. 1, 8, 15. There is no class on Mar. 11 (Spring Break).

This is a 2 semester class for young artists. In it students will will learn new techniques for using colored pencils and explore a new contemporary artist each week as they make an animal illustration.  Instruction will be given for each project, but there will be an opportunity for each student to make artistic choices to customize their art. Some artists studied include: Laurel Birch, Kate Green, Scott Partridge, and Kent Paulette.

Grades are not given in this class. Most work will be completed in class, but students will be asked to bring completed work to share during the next the class period. All learners will be encouraged to improve their technique from whatever starting ability they have.
Classes:
This class meets on Mondays from 2:30 - 3:20 eastern. There are 22 classes. Dates are: Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30 Oct. 14, 21, 28 Nov. 4, 11, 18 Dec. 2. There is no class on Oct. 7 (Fall Break) or Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving Break). Spring Dates are: Jan. 13, 20, 27 Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24 Mar. 3, 17, 24, 31. There is no class on Mar. 10 (Spring Break).
 
Needed Supplies: 
  • A set of at least 24 Crayola or Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils
  • Light-weight white card stock or smooth mixed media paper (65-90#)
  • Pencil, good eraser, and sharpener
